Are you and your partner planning to start a family, but aren’t confident about the best way to raise your children? Is figuring out how to navigate the different expectations each of you have about how you will raise your children harder than you expected?
If you have looked into parenting skills and parenting classes, but are still uncertain if you like or can implement the ideas given, this course is for you. You and your partner can find your parenting style and prepare to parent in harmony.
In recent decades, many couples don’t start a family until their 30s or 40s. So they tend to be very serious about doing it right! There is a lot of information out there which is confusing and overwhelming. The research that you are doing on parenting right now may become a smorgasbord of unrelated techniques, making you feel you don’t have a clear vision of how you should or want to parent.
Deciding to be a parent can bring up your own experience of childhood, and even if you feel comfortable with how you were raised it can be confusing. How does one navigate this global world of technology and social change? How does it affect our parenting and do our children need to be prepared in a different way than we were? At this stage, do you know what your parenting values are? Have you thought about raising your children differently than how your parents raised you or how your partner was raised?
This class is geared towards helping you build a strong foundation. We will start by figuring out and discussing your individual values and beliefs in how you raise your children and how you want the atmosphere of your home to feel. From there, we will work to combine and synergize your values and beliefs to help you raise happy, healthy children in a strong family unit.
What is included in my parenting class?
I provide a parenting class for prospective parents looking for guidance as they plan to expand their families. In this class, you will:
- Find out what you each want to carry forward from your family of origin. This question helps operationalize the values you have.
- Recognize your differences in parenting styles.
- Ask the question: Can you accept the differences you have and/or negotiate them? If you can respect each other’s differences, children will feel safe and secure.
- Build confidence by becoming aware of what you value and how to achieve that goal together to build a safe, happy, and respectful home.
This class is 3-4 sessions online, for individual couples.
Why should I go to a one-on-one parenting class?
In a group, you might hesitate to share your couple’s differences or your own fears about the responsibilities of parenthood. After the 3-4 individual sessions, you may choose to follow up in a group.
